Carpooling
Are you looking for a more cost effective way of getting to and from work or school? Have you tried carpooling? Cross County Connection provides a free ridematch service to help you find a suitable carpooling partner based on your commute patterns—origin, destination, start and ending times. Depending on the distance traveled and the number of passengers, the savings can add up quickly.
To find your match, or to register a current carpool, apply here. If a match is found, you will be notified via telephone and will be mailed a list of names and contact information of commuters who share similar schedules. Once you receive the match report, simply call or email the people on the list to make arrangements. Saving money on your commute is that easy!

Do not have a car? No problem!
Commuters register each day that are willing to do all of the driving. In fact, there are two types of carpool arrangements: carpools which use one vehicle owned by one driver and carpools which alternate driver responsibilities.

Tips for starting a successful carpool
- Plan a face to face meeting prior to starting your ridesharing relationship to determine if the carpool will be right for you.
- Draw up a schedule for driving responsibilities to follow.
- Predetermine expense reimbursement if need be.
- Establish policies to avoid possible irritants from ruining your experience—smoking or nonsmoking; food and beverage; music and volume.
- Be punctual and establish effective lines of communication in the case that a circumstance arises in which carpooling is not an option for that day.
- Be willing to modify personal habits.

Vanpool
Cross County Connection has the tools at our disposal to help get you and your coworkers into a vanpool. A vanpool is a group of commuters traveling to and from a worksite(s), using a vehicle having 7 to 15 seats. Participants decide the driving, routing, operating and cost sharing arrangements themselves. To find an existing vanpool, register your own or find commuters to vanpool with, apply here.

Typically, the van is provided by a third-party vanpool company, which takes care of the maintenance and insurance costs as part of the package for which individual vanpool groups pay a monthly fee. Once you have an interested group, Cross County Connection will put you in touch with VPSI, the leading vanpool provider in New Jersey, and you will be on your way!

Vanpool Incentives
NJ TRANSIT offers a statewide vanpool sponsorship program, which provides a financial incentive for vanpooling in areas where public transportation is neither available nor feasible. Each vanpool group may be eligible for $175 per month of sponsorship support. Newly forming or existing vanpool groups who obtain their vehicles from a participating vanpool provider can apply for NJ TRANSIT sponsorship through Cross County Connection at no charge. Visit NJ TRANSIT for more information.
